Pause and Paint

I haven't posted in awhile but I've been hard at work.

I'm currently working on an assignment where you watch a movie, then pause on a scene with great visuals then do a quick painting in around 10 min.

The key is to focus on scenes with great composition, color, and lighting.

I am actually having a bit of fun with this assignment but when a picture starts to look good its hard not to get carried away and spend a lot more than 10 min.

Here are a few of my favorites:

What Dreams May Come

Romeo and Juliet

This term has been pretty good to me in that I am doing really well in all my classes and getting really great critiques for most of my assignments.  I kind of feel like I've turned a corner and feel excited again.  I've done a few pieces that I'm actually proud of; I hope this streak will continue throughout the term.

God Bless.

Somethings Happening...

I did these in my drawing for illustration class.  They are ordered from most recent to oldest.  The top one of the clown I did earlier today.

I am trying to be more and more experimental but its hard because this is really my first forray into caricature and color/shape abstractions.  My instructor called it exciting and sophisticated and said its the best piece I've done so far.  I do kind of like it.

It's pretty encouraging because I feel like my drawings have improved a great deal from taking this class and improvement has generally been very hard to see.

I will try to work some of these ideas into my final book project.

This Fs for you, Jeremy

So I was watching the New York Knicks game while doing homework last night and I was so inspired by Jeremy Lin's play that I decided to dedicate my assignment to him.

For my digital illustration class we were supposed to create patterns to be printed and sold by the Natural History museum and we were supposed to pick one of the exhibits as our theme.

When I presented my pattern during critiques I explained that:

"I chose Jeremy Lin;  I know he's not in the museum yet, but he's makin HISTORY right now!!!"

well my teacher was not amused
but she's gonna let me redo the assignment
